Coriander Filtro

Coriander

Despite its exotic/asian associations coriander grows very well outside in the UK.

It can be sown straight into a grow bed, or a nice wide pot, but make sure you keep it moist otherwise it can run to seed.

Time from seed to plate: 8 weeks

Sowing Calendar

Sow

Sow coriander any time from April to August. Fill a pot with compost and firm it down gently with your palm. Scatter your coriander seeds leaving about a couple of centimetres between each one. Sprinkle over a fine layer of compost to just cover the seeds, and water gently to moisten the compost.

If you've got a big appetite for Coriander you can also sow it as a row in a grow bed - the deeper soil will also help to keep the plants moist.

Coriander does have a tendency to run to seed, particularly in the Summer months, so it's a good idea just to sow a trug or row every couple of months if you have space.

Grow

It's essential to keep coriander well watered to stop it running to seed.

Whenever you see any flower shoots forming pinch these off at the base, otherwise your plant will divert its energy into seed instead of leaf production.

Harvest

Chopping off leaves will encourage new ones to form, but the plant will tire after a while, so try and keep a supply of new plants coming through.
