Although few people grow it, I view Kale as an essential part of any veg plot. The beautiful leaves have a wonderful earthy flavour and offer more nutritional value for fewer calories than almost any other food around.
It'll grow right through the summer and into the winter when, incredibly the arrival of frost actually improves the flavour by sweetening up the leaves - whilst other plants will be collapsing right left and centre around it.
I eat it at least once a week simply steamed, or sauteed with olive oil and garlic.
Just pull off leaves from around the stem as and when you need them allowing the centre of the plant to carry on growing.
Growing Equipment: Gutters are handy for sowing if you have a plot. Grow kale in a grow bed if you have a patio, although it does take up quite a bit of room.
