Chicory is a fantastic plant to grow for salad leaves through the Autumn and Winter. Rosso di Treviso is one of the toughest, being able to withstand temperatures down to -15C! It's beautiful too, with contrasting deep red leaves and pure white stems that look stunning back lit by the low winter sun.
Be prepared though, it does taste quite bitter. Pick the inner leaves that are naturally blanched by the plant to avoid this, fry/grill it with a little butter or alternatively dig the plants up to 'force' them in darkness (more on that in the grow guide).
