Brandywine dates back to 1885 and is generally regarded as the best tasting beefsteak tomato ever created. When I first tried it, it tasted rather odd because it had incredibly soft skin. I later found out that most modern varieties of tomato have been specially bred for tougher skins - capable of surviving the rigors of supermarket processing. Grow brandywine for it's wonderful texture and truly delicious tradional tomato taste.
I have grown Brandywine outside, but it's best to only try this one if you have a greenhouse, it's relatively slow growing and needs lots of warmth to reach maturity. For outdoor growing gardeners delight is a much better bet.
